This book is AMAZING! I’m thrilled with the impressive amount of information it contains. I wouldn’t recommend this book to an absolute beginner sewer, but anyone who has a fair grasp of how patterns work will be excited and inspired by it. I saw some negative reviews on the quality of the paper, but I’m fine with it having a “copy paper” feel because I know if this same book were hardback and printed on glossy pages, it would be MUCH more expensive! It’s over 900 pages!!

    Pattern Making book review

The book though looks like not so brand new wrapped in plastic though, the content is great. Overall worth buying considering price for U.S. edition is much expensive.

  • Top critical review

Book not the same as the photo

In the photo it shows the hardcover version but when I received it, it was the soft cover version. It never mentioned in the description that it was the soft cover if they did I wouldn’t of bought it because I could of got it for a lot cheaper some place else. I emailed them about my situation more than a week ago and never got a reply.

  • Great book for the sewing major!

I purchased this as a required text for a college pattern-making class. I love this book! The author gives good visual instructions of how a basic pattern piece can be changed to create new designs or looks for the seamstress. I believe that I now have the knowledge to be able to take one regular store pattern and modify it to create many new clothing items. The author also introduces new terminology which benefits the apparel design student. The only trouble I have with this particular book is that it must have been (black market) published out of the United States. My page numbers do not correspond with the page numbers in my teacher's identical book. (My teacher is aware of this and makes sure that she identifies the title at the top of each page for me.)

  • Great for fashion majors

I ordered this book for my Pattern-making class. Although the cover is deceiving and it is actually the black and white edition they are selling the content is matched to the color version with minor set backs. Such as, the patterns they show in the book have no variation in color to define which line should be cut. Having said that, there are written instructions to help indicate to the reader. All around a good purchase.

  • Great Reference/learning pattern making book

I am an accomplished dressmaker but wanted to expand my experience by learning the skills related to making my own patterns. I attend local classes with an experienced teacher, which was helpful in creating the basic dress sloaper or foundation. I found this book so helpful in expanding my knowledge beyond the class and growing my technical skills in patternmaking. It has it all and I use it. It has clear pictures and explanations.
